The Skill and Speed program was developed at SuperKick in 2007 and has been one of our most requested soccer training programs since we opened. Our goal was to take soccer training to the next level with this high intensity training program. We integrated our Speed/Agility/Quickness curriculum and Soccer Skills training curriculum to create a hybrid approach to soccer training. The Skill and Speed program is designed to develop players who are physically dominate in games with and without the ball.
Why is Skill and Speed Training Necessary?
- In general, players tend to slow themselves down when they are receiving, passing, shooting, or dribbling the soccer ball because they do not have the confidence or the necessary skills to work with the ball at top speeds. Players need to train in situations that force them to play at high speeds and under tremendous pressure to make the pressure of game situations easier to handle.
- In addition, players tend to get "sloppy" as they become tired during a game. Players begin to hang their heads, lose proper running form, find it hard to maintain their balance, tend to make poor decisions with the ball, and basic technical skills become difficult as fatigue grows late in the game. Players need training to develop the ability to play at high speeds.
- Skill and Speed training develops players physically and technically with the ball during the same training session.
- Players are taught how to efficiently and effectively use their bodies to be faster and stronger with and without the ball at their feet.
- The athletes are pushed to dribble, pass, receive, and shoot while moving at speeds in situations that are similar to the game.
- Lastly, the intensity of the Skill and Speed sessions force players to be physically and technically sharp while heavily fatigued, just like what is required during a game.
